Have a early breakfast then take off for the short drive to Lancaster for a visit to the Lancaster Central Market, the oldest enclosed market in the country. Take in the sights and sounds and smells of the market. Later we will meet our guide, Fay Landis, at the Strasburg Creamery for lunch and then we are off for some intensive and fascinating touring in Lancaster county. Visit a Amish bake shop and sample Amish specialties such as: Shoofly Pie, Apple Crumb Pie, or Whoopie Pies.

A short ride takes us to a farm, where Katie Stoltzfus has sold quilts out of a barn for many years. Katie only offers the genuine article and now has 40 to 50 local quilters working for her. This is Country Lane Quilts, where you’ll find a mind boggling selection of quilts in all categories and price ranges. During our busy drives through Lancaster County Fay will provide information on the history of the area. She will expand on the history of the Amish and the Mennonites; their faith, traditions and lifestyle. You are encouraged to ask questions about their education, church services, transportation, communication or how the Amish relate to “the English” and the outside world. You will learn that the Amish are successful in today’s society both in Pennsylvania and in many other states.

Tonight visit a Amish farm for dinner and conversation (in old German dialect – if you like). The family will answer any questions you may have about the Amish. (B, D)
